MINUTES:
Doc motioned and Grumpy seconded that the minutes be approved as posted on the website. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Gary Steinweg reported that we had plenty of money in the treasury (as posted on the website), to which we added
$15.00 for a new membership and $25.00 for a sold patch. (Thanks, Chris.)
OLD BUSINESS:
Kudos go to Ron Growel for the letter which is now appearing on the website regarding membership dues changes.
(new membership form)
Bill reported on the Executive Board meeting, which was called. It was the general opinion that the old adages
apply: (1) Those that will, will and those that won’t, won’t…” and (2) “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” In other
words, everyone is welcome to participate in every ride, run for office, and propose rides etc. as they choose.
NEW BUSINESS:
It was suggested that on “Official” Club Rides, the leader of the pack be treated for lunch on said ride, the check
being shared among the remaining riders. After some discussion, it was agreed upon. (Secretary’s note: Any questions
should be settled before the ride and not at lunch-time, when you “just happen” to find yourself outside The Outback
Steak House! :^))
John Q. wrote up and presented the results of the Pin Committee meeting, which I will attempt to insert here:
Pin Proposal
Last meeting the club voted to move forward with a proposal to offer special pins or patches to members who had
ridden a given number of miles. The idea was to increase ride participation.
A committee of volunteers was formed consisting of Greg and Seanna Huber, Rod Fleming, Dick Useted and myself.
During our one and only meeting, the idea of patches was quickly rejected. None of us wanted to sew the things
onto leather goods.
I had already gotten a quote and some pin details from the people who produced our club patch, which included several
sizes, prices, and options. Among those options was a choice of base metal color, which opened up a whole new area.
We decided to combine the miles pin with a general membership pin, which had been discussed some months ago.
Here’s the plan I’m asking your approval for.
We will purchase 100 pins designed to reflect our club patch. 75 of the pins will be made in a silver colored base
metal 25 of the pins will be made in a gold colored base metal The silver base pins will be given to “every” dues
paying club member with additional pins available for purchase.
The gold base pins will be reserved for members who ride 3000 club miles. That mileage was arrived at based on
the typical length of our rides and assuming it should take a year or more to earn. Ride mileage will be tracked
by ride captains and listed on the Website as part of the recap. It will be up to each rider to keep track of his
or her mileage. When you have accumulated 3000 miles let a club officer know and you will be presented with a gold-based
pin at the next meeting. You will be expected to make a speech.
Among the other options was the type of attachment for the pin. The “butterfly” type is standard and we all know
how well those work. Also available are “screw on” type in single or double attachment. The pin people have suggested
double due to the size of the pin. We have decided to run with their recommendation.
So finally the bottom line. The cost of 100, inch and a half pins with dual screw on attachments plus shipping
plus a small artwork fee is $321, well within the treasury’s “expendable” figure.
The price of extra club pins hasn’t been discussed but if we follow the model used for our patches should be slightly
higher than the actual cost so we can order additional pins without dipping into the treasury.
The above was read to the membership. Doc motioned that we accept it, Gary seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Jim Hockett took this opportunity to present a plaque to Bill Edwards, representing the now infamous horse incident,
much to the general merriment of the group. Nope, we won’t let him forget.
