WANDERERS GENERAL MEETING
July 26th, 2003
Country Choice Restaurant
John Q, Subbing for Club Secretary Rose Fleming Reports

ATTENDING: Carole Helstrom, Sparrow Daenitz, Bill Daenitz, Bill Edwards, Sean Brooks, Tina Brooks, Seanna Huber, Greg Huber, John Q. Lawrence, Joe Durham, Betsy Durham, Joe Baker, Gary Steinweg, Lucas Dabney

Prior to the official start of the meeting, and in the spirit of the day, everyone in attendance got lei'd. Yes, it's true, debauchery has reared its ugly head at our club meetings. Ok, perhaps that isn't the correct word. How about Fun, Frolic, Lightheartedness. With Wanderers President Rod Fleming and Secretary Rose Fleming vacationing in the Hawaiian Islands this particular day a plot was hatched. Each member (and a couple of people who happened to sit at a table nearby) were decorated with a real...(ok, some sort of soft plastic) lei. To everyone's relief we dispensed with the hula lessons.

Greg called meeting to order at 10:00 AM following a motion to do so by Joe Durham and a second from Tina Brooks.

MINUTES: A motion was made that the minutes be accepted as posted. All agreed.

TREASURERS REPORT: Club Treasurer big (real) Gary tells us "we got money." To be precise after expenses for the Wanderers picnic, withdrawal of funds earmarked for our very successful Children's Hospital drive and 25 new 'large' patches the club treasury has a balance of $386.64

OLD BUSINESS: A huge thanks was bestowed on everyone who attended the San Diego Wanderers chosen charity event for the year, the Children's Hospital run. All seem agreed that this was a very good thing and that we should consider doing it again next year.

NEW BUSINESS:

JQ's idea to reward motorcycle (and club) friendly restaurants with the San Diego Wanderers "Golden Fork" award was presented. Two possible certificate designs were passed around and one was unanimously approved for production and presentation as the need arises. At each meeting if someone has been especially impressed with the way club members were treated (and of course the grub was pretty good) bring it up for a vote and possible presentation of the certificate.

Several upcoming rides were discussed including next weekends "Anti Destination" and the following weeks "Cooks Corners". Bill Edwards promises ride details for the latter sometime this week so it can be posted on the club websites "upcoming rides" schedule.

A Fall camping trip was proposed for late September or early October. Greg Huber is going to check the Potrero campground (where we held our spring campout) and see if the group campsite is available. We'll discuss this in more detail at the next meeting.

Bill Edwards reminds us that Amy Holland, Editor of "Friction Zone" will be attending and speaking at the September club meeting. She will also be going along on the after meeting ride with us. She will be publishing her speaking schedule in the August (1st) issue of the magazine if you want to snag a copy to have it autographed.

SAFETY ITEMS

Following this weeks discussion on the club list-serv, Greg went over all of the club hand signals as posted on this page of the club website. All members are encouraged to review these signals along with our ride protocols. Even if you never plan to lead or ride sweep for a ride it is highly recommended all members read those pages too. This way everyone will be up to speed on the special responsibilities that go along with being a Ride Captain.

I was agreed that Ride Captains will 'always' read the ride rules prior to each ride, even if it's the "Readers Digest" version. Carole Helstrom will be adding a short paragraph to her welcoming letter sent to new members asking them to read those pages as well.

John Q will add a line to the ride schedule page advising potential guests to review these pages before joining our rides.

PINS AND PATCHES

John Q has passed the entire inventory (with the exception of some patches and pins available from Rose) to Membership Director Carole Helstrom. Anyone wanting/needing patches (large $30, small $5) or additional pins ($5) please contact Carole. Her e-mail address is in the 'members only' area in the event you don't already have it.

Meeting adjourned at 10:35 by agreement of all present.

Freshly Lei'd and smilin'

John Q. Lawrence
