Club Secretary Rose Fleming Reports
ATTENDING: Rod & Rose Fleming; Greg & Seanna Huber; Melinda & Steve Mitchell; Bill & Sparrow Daenitz;
Scott Holecek & Rebecca Hall; Fabian Gil; Ron Growel; Joe & Betsy Durham; Joe Baker; Gary Steinweg; John
Q. Lawrence; Kevin Gayken; Tom Warren; Bill Edwards; Lucas Dabney; Tom Cassidy.
Meeting called to order by Rod Fleming at 10:00 AM.
MINUTES: John Q. motioned that the minutes be accepted as posted to the website; Sparrow seconded, and the minutes
were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Gary Steinweg reported that the treasury now holds a total of $1158.10.
CLUB PICNIC: A committee made up of Melinda Mitchell, Seanna & Greg Huber, Rose Fleming and Joe Baker
has volunteered to orchestrate, organize and otherwise make sure this shindig gets off the ground. Club members
will be notified via the list and forum of ride and other plans.
PATCHES: John Q. made up a display board showing the club patch and pins. Very impressive, John. Purchasing large
patches was discussed, and John Q. is going to mail samples around to various venders for pricing on an order of
25, with 10 having already been pre-sold.
GOLD PINS: Congratulations to Gery & Virginia Marcelino and Michael Wheeley for having attained their 3000
club miles. Gold pins and Certificates were awarded. However, since none of these Wanderers were present, we were
unable to present them with all the usual fanfare. Applause for each of you, since you were given this recognition
“in absentia”.
ODDS & ENDS: Amy Holland, the editor of “Friction Zone”, has graciously offered to address the Club regarding
safety issues. Bill Edwards will e-mail her to set it up.
RIDES:
Blessing Of The Bikes June 28 (after the Club Meeting)
This ride is hosted by the San Diego Wanderers, and is open to all. Meeting place for those planning just on riding,
will be the South Shores Parking Lot for a 10:00 departure. Club members will be meeting at Country Kitchens for
a 9:00 AM meeting.
Cook’s Corners (Bill E.) August 9
SAFETY FIRST: The topic for the Safety Portion of this meeting was “Preparation for a Ride”. Upon signing up, riders
need to take responsibility for themselves, particularly in the following areas: 1. Making sure they have all the
necessities for that particular trip, such as water, bandannas, sunscreen, chaps, gloves and so forth; 2. Checking
and maintaining their equipment; 3. Showing up at the designated place and time with a full tank of gas, ready
to depart. 4. Knowing the riding partners and expected conditions of the route. If you haven’t ridden in the desert,
for instance, you should take a short exploratory journey into the desert to find out what it can be like and determine
what is needed. If you have not ridden on twisty mountain roads before, you should take a short journey to find
out ahead of time what that could be like. If you hate freeways, then perhaps a long trip that is almost exclusively
pounding down the highway isn’t for you. Knowing your limitations and improving your skills ahead of time will
make for a more enjoyable ride---not only for you, but also for those who are riding with you. Last, but certainly
not least, avoid alcohol while riding. (Presented by Rod Fleming)
John Q. motioned that the meeting be adjourned, Greg seconded, and the meeting ended at 10:34 AM
