Country Choice Restaurant
ATTENDING: Carole Helstrom; Diane & Joe Keneally; Bill Daenitz; Joe Baker; Sean & Tina Brooks and
Kristine; Joe & Betsy Durham; Steve & Melinda Mitchell; Mike & Linda Calderone; Bill Edwards; Fabian
Gil & guests Marc Gonzalez & Mike Mittleider; Lucas Dabney; Rod & Rose Fleming; John Q. Lawrence; Thomas
& bonnie Cassidy; Chris & Carol Brown; Ron Growel; Jim Hockett; Kent Saxton.
Rod Fleming called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM
MINUTES: Tom motioned that the minutes be accepted as posted to the web site; John Q. seconded and the minutes
were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: John Q. read the report, due to Gary Steinweg’s “mini-Gary” voice being too small to be heard.
We started the month out with $432.39, and ended the month with $462.69. Joe Durham motioned that the report be
accepted as read; Tom seconded. The Treasurer’s Report was approved. “Mini-Gary” was retired to his envelope.
OLD BUSINESS: We had none.
NEW BUSINESS: Two more Wanderers have earned their gold pins for having completed 3000 club miles: Bill Edwards
and Ron Growel. Congratulations to both of you!
The subject of a club address book was brought up. There had been some discussion earlier about releasing the Roster
to the general membership, but it was decided that those who wanted to have their names, addresses, and phone numbers
made available should e-mail the secretary with permission. She (meaning I) will then forward them to Carole Helstrom
for inclusion. Sean Brooks announced that the information page on the List has had further security built into
it to prevent “harvesting” by spammers.
Lucas Dabney has information on a group discount for 20 or more tickets to the Long Beach Motorcycle Show in December.
He will post a link once this is verified. (Hey, we can use the savings for something else, right?)
John Q. had an idea (a few groans were heard at this announcement…all in fun) about having bumper stickers printed
up with our patch design and words to the effect of “My friend rides a motorcycle. Please be careful” or something
similar. Fabian Gil spoke up to let us know that he does that sort of thing on the side, and would be glad to sell
them to the club at his cost. Hurrah Fabian!! (More savings to go into the treasury) Carole H. then mentioned that
she would like to get a reflective decal like John Q. has on the back of his helmet. Once again, Fabian to the
rescue! He can do that too! Whatta guy! A vote was taken on the club spending the money. The “yes” vote was unanimous.
RIDES:
Rod Fleming proposed a North County Ride and inviting our sister club, the SoCal Cruisers to join. He will get
in touch with them and set it up. Nov.??
Long Beach Motorcycle Show Ride Dec 12-14
We usually go up as a group on Saturday or Sunday
ODDS AND ENDS:I asked for a minute to express my gratitude for the boot jewelry (not “boob jewelry, Steve), and
for the banner that Carole secured from The Falls Restaurant in Palm Springs. Also, I wanted to let everyone know
how much this club and all of its members mean to me. You guys are the greatest family that anyone has ever been
adopted by!
Ron Growel is starting a new business using his considerable talent in photography. He has a new web page devoted
to the particulars, and passed out business cards. Take a look, guys and gals…he really has a flair, and should
do well. Good luck in your new venture, Ron!
(Back to business.)
Rod brought up an accident that he saw along highway 8 at the Fletcher Parkway exit last week. The motorcycle involved
was a custom with the over-sized back tire. He reminded us that these bikes are notoriously hard to handle and
that they are not as responsive in curves as a normal bike. The main message was that we should be aware of the
difficulty and if we see someone on one of these bikes, to be very careful around them.
SAFETY: Kent’s question d’jour was, “How many checked the air in their tires today?” He reminded us that air pressure
was very important in riding safely. He also said that, since we have such diversity in the styles of bikes, from
sports to trikes and everything in between, within our own group, we should be aware that handling varies from
bike to bike. Be aware of the differences, and adjust accordingly.
John Q motioned for adjournment; Joe Durham seconded (along with others). Meeting adjourned at 10:38.
Today’s After Meeting Ride will be lead by Ron Growel.
Respectfully submitted,
Rose Fleming
Secretary
