WANDERERS GENERAL MEETING

February 28th, 2004
Country Choice Restaurant

ATTENDING: Rod & Rose Fleming; Sean Brooks; Don Petrick (new member); Carole Helstrom; Bonnie Cassidy; Joe Pitz & Linna Wang (new members); Kent Saxton; Skip Wilson (new member); Bill Daenitz; Lucas Dabney; Gary Steinweg; Bill Edwards; Peter Drake; Steve & Melinda Mitchell; Debra Smith; Rebecca & Scott Holecek; Greg Huber; John Q. Lawrence; Joe & Betsy Durham; Linda Wheeler & Mike Calderone; Diane & Joe Keneally; Barry Leonard (visitor); and last, but not least, Leon Smeiska.

Rod Fleming called the meeting to order at 10:07 AM.

MINUTES: John Q. motioned that the minutes be accepted as posted to the web site; Greg seconded, and the minutes were approved.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Gary reported that we currently have $430.69 in the treasury, after deducting the cost of reserving the campground space for the two campouts scheduled this year. He anticipates a significant increase over the next two months as membership renewals start coming in. Rebecca motioned that the report be approved as read; Greg seconded. Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS: There was no old business.

NEW BUSINESS: It's that time again, people, when we put forth our nominations for officers. If you have someone in mind, please download the nomination form from the web site, and hand it in before the next meeting. You may email your nominations to venture-rose@cox.net. All nominations must be in the secretary's hands prior to next month's meeting. The officer positions are as follows:

President
Vice-President
Secretary
Treasurer
Member Representative

Please check with your nominee before placing his/her name up for election, to make sure he/she wants to serve.

Membership renewal begins now. All members who wish to continue being a "San Diego Wanderer" must send their renewal form in. There are a couple of changes this year, so please take time to fill it out and enclose it with your annual dues. Renewals should be mailed to Carole Helstrom at the address on the bottom of the form.

SAFETY FIRST: Last Saturday, Kent, Leon, and Doc Cassidy put together a series of exercises, designed to test and improve our riding skills at low speeds, sudden stopping, obstacle avoidance. We also learned how a 160 lb. Man (or an 115 lb. woman, for that matter) can single-handedly pick up an 880 lb motorcycle. Doc gave a great talk on what the well-dressed (and safety conscious) rider and passenger should wear, and why. Joe Pitz had graciously offered to film our exercises, and made movie stars of all who attended. A copy of this film (on CD Rom) now resides in our club library. Our thanks to all involved.

Our beloved Joe and Betsy Durham will be departing to Arkansas by the middle of March (or there about), where they have purchased a beautiful new home. Joe says that he is 3 HOURS away from the nearest freeway, so finding them could be a bit of an adventure, but we are all invited to "Come on down, if we get in their new neck of the woods." (Sounds like a ROAD TRIP to me, especially if there will be food when we get there!) We will miss them both. Goodbye, and good luck, Joe and Betsy.

RIDES:

Santa Barbara (courtesy of Scott & Rebecca) March 13 & 14

Please check the web site for dates and further information on all upcoming rides. There have been some changes. John Q. makes a concerted effort to keep the schedule current, for which we are thankful.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:45 AM.

Respectfully submitted,

Rose Fleming
Secretary
