Greg H called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

MINUTES: John Q moved that the minutes be accepted as posted to the web site; Doc seconded. Minutes were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Tom’s records show the current balance is $730.42. $66 still to come in from xmas in July. John Q moved that the $66 be spent to purchase more movies for the senior home. Carole seconded. Unanimously accepted. Steve will do the purchasing.

OLD BUSINESS: Steve shared a thank you card from seniors at our xmas in July party. They were truly thrilled with all that transpired.
Greg led discussion of the spending of monies from treasury. Carole was to look into T-shirts, and ride leader’s pins. She suggested we stay with company that already has our logo, and shared an iron-on-kit found by John Q that would allow members to select a different shirt than company offers if so desired. They could iron on the patch themselves since it is available on our website. Carole also suggested getting gold “Man in the Maze” pins for ride leaders since the cast was paid for when created for silver pins. She will explore the cost. Painting the excess silver pins gold was also suggested. John Q also showed several key chains he had created that would cost only pennies above the membership pin cost to turn into key chains ….. maybe Xmas party favors.
Thanks were extended to John Del Santo for coordinating the CPR course. All who took the course were thrilled with it and felt they learned a lot. Certificates are forthcoming.

NEW BUSINESS:
Jon & Carole McDonald-Gibson became members today.
Rose and Gary were presented with cards as acknowledgement for their long-term service to the board.
A discussion was held about term limits. Greg felt that two years would make a good term limit, and noted that his are “up.” He thanked Melinda, Tom, and Carole for stepping up and encouraged others to do the same.

Rose spoke in gratitude to those who are supporting her and Seanna in their walk to fight breast cancer. Their required contributions to participate have been met, but they are still accepting donations. Donors can give money directly to Rose or Seanna, or donate via email. Email donations receive a receipt for taxes. October 14-15-16 is the walk. Rose will have route and cheering section sites at next month’s meeting.. Aaron has agreed to cheer in whatever attire Rose and Seanna suggest..they’re thinking cheerleader’s uniform with pompoms!

John Del Santo has a new decibel meter and offered anyone who desires a reading on their bike.
Billy will look into an area that the club can maintain cleaning on. Cuyamaca area was suggested as a preference.

NEW RIDES: Please check the web site for up-coming rides.
A sea to summit ride is being planned.

SAFETY FIRST:
Doc brought up the need for communication devices on rides. Chatterboxes cost run from $195-295 ($95 on sale.) He got two radios for $14.95 that work just great! Steve is working on microphone/earpiece set and will report next month.

Doc showed first aid kits - $14.95 for two kits at Sam’s Club. He offered to get them for club members who desire them and aren’t Sam Club’s members. Or you can check them out at www.firstaidonly.com

Doc presented ride captain’s certificates to members who have qualified. Congratulations go to: Russ Greene, Rod Fleming, John Q Lawrence, Greg Huber, Melinda Mitchell, Tom Warren and Paul Barban.

Rod cautioned that trucks are losing their recaps in this excessive heat. Look for trucks throwing rubber. Be alert and give them a wider berth than normally given. Russ and John Del Santo dittoed the caution advocating getting out from behind trucks always!
.
This and That:
John Q showed reflective arm bands and lightweight jacket from a new source he’s found. Quality products can be found at www.classyriders.com. The armbands were discussed as possible purchase from club funds at $5.00 a pair.

John Del Santo talked of the contest in the newsletter looking for who could come up with the most uses for duct tape…motorcycle related ideas. Who wins? Why, John Q of
course…who could beat gadget man in this area? Contest next month will be on uses of WD40…get busy thinking everyone!

John Del Santo reported the fact found that deer whistles really don’t work…alertness is your best defense.

Steve motioned that the meeting be adjourned; Carole seconded. The meeting adjourned at 10:45.

Respectfully Submitted,
Carole Helstrom Secretary
