John Q called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

MINUTES: Rose moved that the minutes be accepted as posted to the web site; John Q seconded. Minutes were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Tom reported that the current balance is $720.80.

OLD BUSINESS: Carole hasn’t gotten a call back yet on price of gold ride leader’s pin. She will let us know next month.
Billy was not present, so road cleaning report will be given next month.
John Q reported on arm bands. Club will not purchase them, individuals may order and he will take care of the order. Order sheet was distributed, orders entered, monies paid. John Q will check with absentees and place order. There was some discussion about making our own, but it was decided that saving would not be worth the effort.
Rod reported on the successful moonlight ride. Good use of high beams, spacing, and comfort of the ride was applauded. The planning was excellent, and “new” additions to ride procedures made it even better! Small briefings at each stop add to effectiveness, as well as new procedure of hand up to indicate ready to take off. With a long line, the sweep rider can see this signal and let the lead know when everyone is ready to ride. This process will be added to our ride procedure publications.

NEW BUSINESS:
Regretfully, Sharie has resigned her position, Carole will pick up the responsibilities for now.
Southern Cruiser’s fund raiser for Bien was reported by John Q. Wanderers attendance and support was much appreciated.
John Q shared with us how the southern cruisers website posts “staging areas” throughout their members home areas to facilitate established meeting places for each area, so that members can have small rides to meet the planned ride. Pointing out that we have common starting points, he suggested a similar plan for the Wanderers. Launch points would make it easier for us too. Doc will follow up on this.
Rose reported on the cheering sections for the Cancer Walk. They will be posted to the list. Members are encouraged to come and cheer them on.
Guests from the Gold Wing Club shared a run they are doing on October 1st. We have a rock store run on that day. Reworking/combining will be explored by ride leader. Check website for info.
Xmas party has a date-Saturday Dec 17th committee is needed. Rose volunteered to chair the committee. John Del Santo, Carole, Tom, and Bonnie volunteered to be on the committee.
Our Fund Raiser was brought up. John Q suggested a ride with this one. He asked for ideas? Favorite charities? Leon suggested we join Ride for Kids and will report on this next month. Keeping ours separate, and in July was discussed too.

NEW RIDES: Please check the web site for up-coming rides. Greg will plan a new ride and Russ will plan another night ride. John Q outlined the upcoming Sea to Summit Ride, and how it could incorporate the memorial ride for Southern Cruisers scattering of Bien’s ashes on Mt. Laguna. Tom is working on a “Take Back the Mountain” Mt. Palomar ride for November 12th.

SAFETY FIRST: John Del Santo has given Doc a list of the 1400 call boxes in the county.
Doc led discussion focusing on Leon’s post regarding doing EVERYTHING to make sure car drivers see your motorcycle. John Del Santo brought up blue light…which is illegal, but he has never been stopped for. Modulating headlights are wonderful. They are legal, but carrying the literature with you that shows that will help if you get stopped.
John Del Santo passed out a diagram illustrating Danger Zones. It is also included in the newsletter. John’s work is very appreciated!
Discussion went on regarding Black Reflective Tape. Carole reminded members to have someone else check your visibility from the back at night in the dark. We need more to make us visible.

THIS AND THAT: John Q shared: new Tandy leather store in La Mesa, new rain suit for $59, air horn –139 decibels. Gadget’s gadget searches were applauded! Thanks John Q!
Carole motioned that the meeting be adjourned; Russ seconded. The meeting adjourned at 10:50 and the after meeting ride began for those that could make it.

Respectfully Submitted,
Carole Helstrom Secretary
