San Diego Wanderers General Meeting

June 24, 2006

Previous Months Minutes Giovanni's Restaurant   Next Months Minutes

ATTENDING:  Rod & Rose Fleming; Greg & Seanna Huber; Debbie Giamanco; Russ Greene & Katie Sullivan; Thomas “Doc” Cassidy; John Del Santo; John Q. Lawrence.

Rod called the meeting to order at 8:15 a.m.

MINUTES:  Doc motioned that the minutes be accepted as posted to the web site; John D. seconded, and the minutes were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  The treasury currently has a balance of $741.95.  Russ moved that the report be accepted; John D. seconded, and the report was approved.

OLD BUSINESS:  Russ reminded the members that the Leather and Plastic ride is coming up on July 8.  An authentic German gourmet buffet will follow.  The cost for the buffet is $15.00 per person, and payment must be given to Russ no later than July 1, so he can notify the restaurant.  He will post a reminder to the List.  Details can be found on the web site.

Members were also reminded of the “Follow the Wind” ride, honoring what would have been Kent’s 65th birthday, tomorrow.  Plan on a 9:00 departure from the Starbuck’s off the 15 at Mira Mesa Blvd.  It’s in the shopping center on the south side.

NEW BUSINESS:  John Del Santo has put together an impromptu plan for Christmas in July.  He produced a flier describing the event.  Tom Warren has volunteered to lead the short ride, while John D. will bring up the rear in his version of Santa’s sleigh.  Members are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the next meeting.  Line-up for the ride will take place in the parking lot at Doc’s church, and members may pile their toys in the back of the “sleigh”.  There has been a fund set aside for this event, and John Q. moved that enough money be moved from the general treasury to that fund in order to bring the total up to a $200 donation.  Doc seconded the motion, and it passed by a majority.

The annual Blessing of the Bikes ride is being planned, but the time and date are still under consideration.  Watch the web site for details to be posted.

SAFETY FIRST:  Today promises to be very hot, so riders and pillions were cautioned to keep hydrated.  Drink plenty of water, and/or sports drinks.  Use cooling scarves or vests, and if you start feeling woozy, get into the shade and hydrate immediately.  Remember, if you’re thirsty, your body is already in need of liquid.  Avoid caffeine if possible.  This includes colas, tea and coffee.

THIS N THAT:  John Q. (as usual) had some very handy tips and gadgets.  Members probably have seen those lamb’s wool seat pads on the market for outrageous prices.  John Q. has the solution that won’t hit your pocketbook.  Go to any Wal-Mart, or Target etc, and buy two or more of those lamb’s wool carwash mitts.  Open the seams, cut off the ribbed wristband, and re-sew them together flat.  Voila!  Instant seat pad for around $6.

He also presented a gadget called a Fuse Buddy, which is a 20-amp circuit tester.  For details on this or a host of other tips and stuff, visit his website at www.gadgetjq.com

Last, but not least, he suggested an energy drink mix called Power Edge.  This mix comes in small packages, perfect for pouring into your water bottle, to replenish vital supplements that are lost during those hot weather excursions.

John Q. called for adjournment; Russ seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 8:45.

REMINDER!!  JULY’S MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE USUAL PLACE AND TIME:  COUNTRY CHOICE, JULY 22, AT 10:00.

Respectfully submitted,
Rose Fleming for Carole Helstrom, Secretary
