Minutes:  None were read.  (Your secretary pro-tem Rose lost all her notes.  Sorry)

Treasurers Report: Tom Warren reported that there were a few additions to the treasury in the form of patches sold, bringing the total to $483.95.  Russ moved that the treasury report be accepted.  John Del Santo seconded, and the motion passed.

Old Business:  None

New Business:  Rod announced that John Q.’s son Shane has obtained permission to run the Parts Department at SoCal Cycle Works (San Diego Indian/Victory) on Miramar Road for the next two months, whereupon they will be relocating.  If he is successful, he will be put in charge at the new location.  Members are urged to make purchases so as to help him obtain his new position permanently.  Shane can get you the parts or accessories you want at a 10% discount for Wanderers.

The upcoming Christmas party was discussed, and a date set for December 2, at the Sweetwater Lodge recreation room.  Seanna & Greg, Bonnie, John Del Santo, Russ (& Katie), Paula, and Rose volunteered to be on the committee.  John D. will do the fliers, and Bonnie will set the tables.  It was generally agreed that the plan we used last year will be the same this time.  Dinner will be catered by Boston Market, and the cost will be $10 per person, advance reservations required.  Committee members will get together and discuss the details, which will be posted soon.

Safety First:  Our new Safety Officer Paula Williamson discussed “Braking Your Motorcycle While Keeping Your Bones Intact.”  A few of the highlights she covered were braking in a straight line, following distances, braking in a curve, and stopping distances at various speeds.  She also covered the dos and don’ts.  For instance, “Don’t grab the front brake, as it provides more than 70% of your stopping power.  Apply the hand brake firmly but smoothly. Don’t jam on the back brake either, as it will cause the rear wheel to lock up.  Be aware of any load factors too.  Luggage and passengers will shift forward onto the front wheel and away from the back.”  Other related topics were stopping distances at various speeds, and the importance of a T-CLOCS inspection (checking Tires, Clutch, Lights, Oil, Chassis/Chain & Side Stand) before every ride. A detailed handout is available in the Wanderers library.  Paula also reminded the group that sometimes swerving is your best approach to those unexpected road hazards, and it doesn’t increase distance.  It’s best to practice these maneuvers when safe to do so.  When in stopped traffic, don’t be the last in line.  Try to get in between the cars if at all possible, and never put your bike in neutral.  You won’t be able to make a quick getaway if you have to.  A couple of safety features that can help you make others aware of your presence:  flashing taillights and headlight modulators.

Paula offered to conduct a Practice Day again, since the first one she held for the women riders was so successful.  She is offering this opportunity to all riders.  Further information will be announced on the List.

Wanderers are reminded that there is a significant insurance reduction upon completion of an authorized safety course.  Don’t forget to show your certificate.

This & That:  John Del Santo told us a story about how he was laid up after an accident.  He had a lot of visitors in the beginning, but none after that.  We have two Wanderers who are recovering from accidents---Gery Marcelino and Billy Daenitz.  Let’s not forget to call and visit throughout their long recovery period, not just at the start.

Anyone interested in becoming a Rider Coach can take the course.  This course is paid for by the MSF except for meals and lodging.  Once completed, you will be certified to teach anywhere.  Interested parties should contact Paula.
