Rod reported from Board meeting: The Board has proposed some changes…these
recommendations will be passed on to the new board. One will note that
membership
renewal is AFTER club elections of officers. Recommended will be to move renewal
to
January, permitting only paid members to vote. Also shared was the procedure for
tie-breaker should it be needed at upcoming elections: proxies/absentee ballots
and
ballots cast by those attending the meeting will be counted. If there is a tie,
proxy/absentee ballots will remain as counted, and members present shall revote.
If
there is still a tie, the winners name will be pulled out of a hat. All votes
will be
counted by the secretary, and one other member. The absentee ballot can be found
on the
website
Also discussed by the board was the termination of the club checking
account,
to be replaced by a savings account and 2 debit cards - one for treasurer, one
for
president. Katie is checking with her bank regarding this possibility.

SAFETY FIRST:
Paula discussed:
1. Only two MSF certified training sites in San Diego are the site she runs, and
the
site at Mt. Palomar.
2. Statistics on accidents, most showed alcohol levels too high, no seatbelts,
elderly
drivers…they don’t see motorcycles….make every effort to stay away from anyone
driving
erratically.
3. ERC classes are upcoming (Rod is in April 25th class), and new courses are
being
developed. Harley is working on a class strictly for Harley Riders.
4. After Tombstone, Paula will be available for FREE TRAINING - one-on-one,
women’s days,
men’s days, combined training…just contact her!
Karl spoke of his appreciation of the ERC course he took, encouraging all to
take it.
He was amazed at how much he learned from it, and how it made a difference in
his
riding.
THIS AND THAT: John Del Santo reminded us that May is Motorcycle Awareness
Month.
Greg is working on email list through his server. Already has something set up.
Will
establish a picture sharing site as well. Should relieve current problems with
roadrunner and aol.
GADGETS:
,JohnQ showed Y handle tools 10-12-14 mm. Suggested anyone riding with Geryfer
might
find them helpful! Available on ebay auction for 1 penny plus shipping.
PRESENTATION BY ROSE FLEMING: Pillion Pals Rose, with Rod’s assistance in role
of
driver, demonstrated guidelines for passenger. Important points were noted:
- Distance between rider and driver varies
- Level back seat is better than raised seat, for center of gravity
- Rider grips side of driver
- Rider keeps feet on pegs or floorboards
- Rider aligns body with the driver, leaning with the driver on turns - don’t
look at
the ground
- Rider keeps head behind the driver’s head
- Develop signals between driver and rider to let driver know if rider needs to
move,
stop, etc. Use signals, headsets, voice contact. Always make movements slowly,
- Passenger helps in traffic, merging, lane changes, spotting movement, etc.
- Passenger gets to enjoy scenery, take photos, etc.
- Driver should give an occasional calf squeeze to indicate all is well.
Paula pointed out that the ERC classes do allow passengers.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:04. So moved by Carole, seconded by Russ.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carole Helstrom
Secretary
