OLD BUSINESS:
Club Holiday Party. The party was a great success and a wonderful time was had by all. The party was hosted by Jon and Carol McDonald-Gibson with assistance by Rob and Darlene Poindexter. It was agreed that the “home” atmosphere added to the ambiance and fun of the party. Katie noted that the expenses were a bit higher this year because the members were not asked to contribute.
Ride Report. John Del Santo reported that the Ride for Kids – Pediatric Brain Research raised $60,000 for the kids. He noted some Wanderers attended the event.
July 2007 Campout – Correction to Minutes. There has been an ongoing communication between the executive board and a past member concerning the minutes covering the campout. As a result, a motion was made by Todd and seconded by Deb G as follows: Eliminate the addendum to the minutes of the July 2007 meeting, as well as any reference and details regarding the cancellation of the club campout and campsite. The motion passed unanimously with one abstention. All minutes will be corrected immediately as stated.
NEW BUSINESS
Membership. It’s time for everyone to renew, and most members have done so already. The best method is to go on line, fill out the form, print it, and get it to Katie along with a check for the appropriate amount. The membership fees remain: $20.00 for a single and $30.00 for a couple. Memberships are for one year and run from March 1 through February 29. There is a 30-day grace period, and if not renewed with 45 days, the member will be removed from the membership list as well as chat and announcement lists.
Office Nominations. Russ noted that the Wanderers are starting nominations for the 2008 officers. There will be a nomination form on line soon, but please ask the nominee first. The following offices are open for nominations and voting:
These offices make up the Executive Board, and after the election, the following offices are appointed by the Board:
Voting will be done by ballot at or before the April meeting.
Ballot Committee. The ballot committee will be picked at the March Meeting. Any member wishing to be on the committee will have their name placed on a slip of paper, and three member names will be randomly chosen. Note: You cannot be on the ballot committee if you are a candidate for any office.
Wanderer’s Library. John Del Santo noted he and the club have over 100 motorcycle-related books for the Wanderers to use or peruse. You can check them out for a month at a time and the list of publications is on the website.
Ride Captains. Russ presented David Peterson and Doc O’Connor with their Ride Captain Gold Wings pin. Both have lead terrific rides and we all look forward to following them again in the future.
SAFETY REPORT
Group Riding Dinner Meeting. Ken Storm has been working with Steve Martin, MSF Instructor, to put together a dinner meeting to discuss group riding and other motorcycle riding subjects. Plans are as follows:
All members and guests are invited. We would like to get an approximate count of attendees so appropriate space will be allotted. An announcement will be made on both lists and on the webpage.
Steve is one of the most experience instructors in California and is responsible for military motorcycle training in a good deal of the state. We hope many members and guests can attend.
Accident Incident and Suggestions. Also discussed was what to do and have on your bike should an accident occur. A Wanderer had an accident on the January ride. Russ explained what happened, and noted that the accident was the fault of the car driver, and that no one was injured. The bike sustained around $2,000 in damage, but was rideable. Todd noted that everyone should carry a pen and paper in their bike in order to take appropriate notes, a camera, insurance information, and a first aid kit.
First Aid Kits. Katie asked what are the basic necessities in a first aid kit. John Del Santo is going to research and report back. It was suggested that Wal-Mart has very good first aid kits in their camping section. Doc noted he switches out the latex to nitrile gloves because some people are allergic to latex.
GADGETS
RIDES
He noted that we’ll probably adjust the usual ride to Arrowhead, etc. Some people have already made lodging arrangements. Others should do this soon since there are so many events that weekend. Todd’s girlfriend is driving a truck up so there will be room for equipment and personal items.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:55 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Nemecek
Acting for Secretary - Carole Helstrom
