Guest, Rita Guychew, introduced herself and was welcomed to the meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:
Russ reported that with new enrollments and renewals to date shows our membership total is 40, with about half of that number riding regularly.  There are two weeks left for membership renewal, after that anyone wishing to renew will have to go through the process for joining. Katie is the contact person for membership.

Nominations for club officers are as follows:
   President – Russ  Greene
Vice President – Ken Storm , David Peterson
   Secretary – Nancy Nemecek
   Treasurer – Rob Poindexter
   Member Liaison – Katie Greene
Russ stated that any other nominations should be sent to Carole Helstrom, Secretary, so they can be added to the slate.  A discussion followed, started by Jon who asked what the deadline for nominations is. Russ felt if the ballot was posted then that should be the deadline. Nancy pointed out (as the group discussed firming this vagueness up by checking the bylaws) that we could establish a nomination procedure, and it could be included in policies and procedures without involving bylaw changes or additions.  Jenn moved that we cut off nominations for this year by establishing March 23 as the deadline for this year, John Del Santo seconded. The motion passed unanimously,

Carole passed a sign-up sheet for those interested in being on the ballot committee.  Jenn presented folded slips to our guest, Rita, who selected three names of volunteers to comprise the ballot committee.  Names picked& assigned to ballot committee:  Jenn, Bryan, and Carole H.

March 28th:  Katie checked into Mulvaney’s for dinner and dancing.  Look on chat list for another reminder from Katie.   Please let her know if you are interested in going.

Jon McDonald-Gibson has checked the speedometer calibration on his bike and Carol’s trike.  Russ is still working on this idea. Todd mentioned AAA does this, and will check to see if they will make their trailer available to check the bikes.  John Del Santo also has equipment to check level of noise, and suggestion was made to do both on the same day.  Look for more info once Todd does his contact request.

NEW BUSINESS:
Voting – the absentee ballot will be on the website March 26, 2008.  Russ discussed candidate bios. We posted bios in the last election.  If you are running for an office, and want to post a bio, email it to Katie by March 30th.  Katie will post them on March 30th.

Russ read the finalized wording on Trike Protocol.  Rob moved that the protocol be accepted as written.  Carol Seconded. The motion passed with 20 yeas, 1 nay, and 1 abstention.

Mike Randazzo wants the Wanderers to ride in the Lakeside Parade. Unfortunately, it is on the same day as our next meeting, and elections. (4/26). He also offered his home, and equipment for a bike detailing day on Sunday the 20th of April.  Kate suggested we all make it a potluck so Mike doesn’t have to cook.  Look for Mike to post details on this event.

Mike Randazzo is proposing a camping trip…getting a group site at Lake Hemet, near Idyllwild. Mike will post this to check who is interested. It will be a member’s only event.

John Del Santo presented information in several areas:
-Insurance info for any who travel to Mexico often.  For $30 a year, this company will get you home should you have an accident in Mexico.
-3/30 has a Memorial Ride in Flynn Springs $5 entry…flyer distributed
-New courses are being offered for motorcyclists – expanded advance rider, dirt bike class, trike class. They should be in place by the end of the year.  Rod Fleming is a new certified trainer.
-John has raffle tickets – prize is a Harley Electraglide.  Contact John if you’re interested.

Carole offered to meet with riders interested in getting their silver wings for completing the skills practice course in the parking lot of Doc Cassidy’s church.  Look for post on the chat list, and let her know if you want to run the course.

Katie reported that the previous owner of sdwanderers.com did not renew it.  Katie registered for it, and it now belongs to the club.  Katie paid $18.99 for it.  Carole moved that the club reimburse Katie for this expense.  John Del Santo seconded.  The motion passed unanimously. The Club does not pay for the hosting of sdwanderers.org so the club will keep them both. sdwanderers.com will be hosted by Site 5.  It has so much space we can post pictures, and anything else the club desires.  After a discussion of costs and options Nancy moved that the club pays $270 for five years of hosting.  John Del Santo seconded. It passed unanimously.

NEW RIDES:
Russ brought up Mike’s desire for the club to ride in the Lakeside parade, and the fact that the date is the same as our next meeting. After a discussion of options, Carol McD-G moved that we hold our April meeting AFTER the participation in the parade in Lakeside.  Carole H seconded. After checking that the restaurant will be able to facilitate a lunch meeting, the vote was taken and passed unanimously.

Russ brought up the Safety Ride to Club Pauma on May 17th, asking for a ride leader.  David suggested that the Safety Officer lead this ride. There will be skills courses to test abilities, and a trike course as well.  This will again be discussed under the new Board.

Jason wants to go back to Pismo Beach…staying overnight in a hotel.  David also mentioned Solvang  and staying at Lake Cachuma.  Bill E told of Santa Maria as being a better place to find hotels.  Jenn will send an email to chat list to find out who is interested.

DocHD will lead a ride tomorrow (members and guests only).  Leaving Starbucks in Rancho San Diego at 9:30AM.  Destination Cuyamacha?

Jon McDonald-Gibson is looking into taking a one-day dirt bike class.  Cost would be $160 for the class, and would include the use of a dirt bike. It is a 6 hour class and would be held in Ocotillo Wells, and run by MSF. All riders would need to bring is their own gear.  John believes that if there were 6 people interested, they would do a class just for us.  He will post details to see who might be interested.

SAFETY FIRST &THIS & THAT:
Ken and John Del Santo suggest another dinner meeting  with a safety focus. There will not be a speaker, but a DVD will be shown as a focus of discussion. Ken will post details to see who would be interested in attending.

Joanne told of a CHP officer in Lakeside who stopped her and her husband and gave them helmet tickets. She warned us to be on the lookout for him. A discussion followed on DOT approved helmets, and how ABATE will help any who are ticketed. If you get such a ticket contact John Del Santo.  Joanne also advised to check your driver’s license to be sure your motorcycle endorsement has been included on your updated license.

David H. told of a new ship launching at 8:00 PM on April 5th. It sounds like a fun club event!  Watch for his posting for information about it.

GADGETS:
John Del Santo showed a gadget with 21 screwdrivers, ratchet, etc for $25 from www.loggerheadtools.com .

Carole will host an evening with Mike Coan from WarmNSafe…makers of heated liners, gloves, etc. Watch for a post to the chat list to let her know if you are interested.  Mike R used his new liner on the Monterey Trip, and told of its benefits to him.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:10...so moved by Carole, seconded by Nancy.  Let's ride!

Respectfully submitted,
Carole Helstrom
