Motorcycle Club
Hello Wanderers,
It is time for renewal and that means more than just renewing our memberships. It means it's time for nominations
and election of our Officers. Since the election will be held at the April 23rd meeting in Spring Valley, I'm
asking for nominations to be made on the list. WANDERERS-LIST@VORTEX.TFB.COM
The deadline for all nominations will be April 16th. If someone sees their name nominated, and wishes to decline
privately, that person should email me privately or call me at home (858-271-5848). I will collect all nominations
and have the ballots ready by the date of the meeting.
According to our by-laws, the election of Officers is to be held by secret ballot by the majority of members present
at a regularly scheduled meeting.
I should note that we have had a proxy vote in the past, but that was not for election of Officers, and I don't
see that it would be necessary in this case. There were relatively few members present at the march Meeting, this
simply gives everyone a chance to make a nomination. Think of it as a "virtual meeting", where you raise
your hand and say, "I nominate Larry Sanders for Prez!". So please take some time for this, and try
to make the April Meeting, so you can actually cast your Vote!
You may nominate for any or all of the following:
President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer
Best Regards,
Bill E.
President
Hi again all,
The following information was kindly sent to me by our own John Delsanto. Thank you John! My take on this is that
perhaps we will now have a much better chance to take an Experienced Riders Course. Is there still an interest
in that? I know I'd be interested, and NO, I don't just mean "horse avoidance". :^)

REPORT TO THE MEMBERSHIP ON THE CALIFORNIA MOTORCYCLE SAFETY PROGRAM
by John Del Santo
The CMSP, which is supported by ABATE of California, is alive and well. They are expanding the number of sites,
and increasing the number of instructors to meet the increasing need. Enrollments are up about 21% over last year.
They are always on the lookout for motorcyclists who want to train and work part-time as instructors.
The existing sites are evaluated regularly to make sure each site is operating properly and within the guidelines.
One site is operating under a temporary permit, and another was deemed "not in compliance".
Between the Beginnners Riding Course and the Experienced Riders Course, 32,784 riders were trained during the year
2001, and since the inception of the program in 1987, more than 220,000 California riders have been trained. There
are civilian and military sites in 67 cities. Expansion is planned for the site in Gilroy, and negotiations are
under way for sites in El Cajon, Union City, and Monterey.
ABATE local 6 continues to encourage participation by rewarding Local 6 members who finish a CMSP training course
with a $20.00 rebate, or a one year extension of their memberhip. If anyone has any questions on this, or any
other ABATE safety related matter, please contact John Delsanto.

Hey Wanderers
A new, much easier to fill out membership application is now posted on the club website. It allows you to 'type'
your information in and then print for delivery to Gary Steinweg.
Easier for you, easier for Gary who won't have to labor over our handwriting any longer. Just click the "Application"
button on the website.
For those who couldn't make it to this months Wanderers meeting, minutes (thanks Rose) are posted on the club Website
under "Meetings" or by clicking directly to: http://www.sdwanderers.org/Meeting_Minutes_March_02.htm
Gery Marcelino's (downsized) photo's of the Spring Bike Wash (held with nary a drop o' rain thankyouverymuch) are
posted in the "Past Rides" area.
Sunday's ride to Yuma for the Padre game is posted on the club website at
http://www.sdwanderers.org/yumabaseball.htm
Thanks to Rod Fleming for the write-up and Greg & Seanna Huber for the photos (I don't know who actually took
them but both managed to stay behind the lens)
Check the Website for a bunch of newly scheduled rides in the "Future Rides" section. Also added is
a page showing our list of "annual" events for your planning purposes.
We have the Ann Arbor American H.O.G Chapter Webmaster to thank for an awesome new addition to our website.
It's an animated graphic showing the common turn signals used by motorcycle riders when in groups. See it by
going to the website, www.sdwanderers.org clicking on "Ride Protocol" and scroll down to the "Click
Here For Animated Demos" button. Or you can just click on:
http://www.sdwanderers.org/handsignals.htm (but you miss out on all the fun of getting there and getting a refresher
on some things you might have missed before.

Ride Reports
Thanks John for leading us on a great day of riding!
Sea To Summit Ride - As planned, we met at the Old Town Trolley station. The weather was great, and the group was
a good mixture of bikes, totaling eighteen in all. We had cruisers of every make and model and even a few sport
bikes mixed in.
We departed Old Town on Pacific Coast Highway and proceeded to Fiesta Island were we made a loop around the small
Island. After leaving there, it was back onto Pacific Coast and past the Trolley once again(that was one of the
longest U-turns I have ever made!). Next on the agenda was Coronado
and what a beautiful view that was as we headed across the Coronado bridge and through the backstreets of Coronado.
Through the Silver Strand and off to Imperial beach we went, to within a stones through of the border. As we wound
our way through the southern edge of IB there were numerous horse ranches and horses on the road itself. I noticed
a couple horses were a little skittish from the bikes, and gee, one bike seemed a little skittish from the horses
:). Sorry Bill, but you gotta agree, that one horse saw you and started edging toward our side of the road.
A quick jaunt on 905E, 805N then back to the backstreets and Otay Mesa for a break before heading off for lunch.
We followed numerous South Bay roads to include Otay Lakes, Honey Springs, Lions Valley and Japatul Rd while on
our way to Descanso for lunch at the "Descanso Junction Cafe".
They were expecting us and had a long table already set up for a hungry crowd. Great food, great service, may
have to make this an official "Wanderers" regular stop.
After lunch it was a quick stop for gas in Pine Valley up Sunrise Highway and on to the lookout for a view, break
and pictures. From the lookout it was over to Julian and back down 78 were we officially ended the ride at the
Julian Apple Pie Company in Santa Ysabel. It was 125 miles to this point, but the entire crew still headed out
together and worked our way to Ramona, which is were we actually split up into numerous groups.
Couldn't of asked for a better weather day! Sunny, warm, and almost no wind! The day was spent conversing with
a great mixture of people thanks to the Wanderers and other local riding groups that attended. A great majority
of time was spent by many trying to figure out Greg's seat dilemma (too long to explain here), and admiring bikes
that we usually don't see on our typical rides.
Greg
At last! A perfect riding day.
Enticed by the promise of Chinese food at one end of our road I hooked up today with Greg and Seanna Huber who
planned to visit a friend in...Hemet. I certainly don't know the history of the humble hamlet but suspect it
may have once had Palm Springs like aspirations. It certainly has the golf courses and even a zoo! Alas, no photos
of this particular encounter exist and the locals will insist it really isn't a proper zoo but..Any place that
has a camel, a buffalo, a bunch of goats and lord knows what else is, in my book....a zoo!
Getting there was, as usual half the fun. Greg arranged a gathering at the Grossmont Center Starbucks with a second
meeting spot in Ramona. Three bikes left Starbucks, Greg & Seanna, Rod & Rose Fleming and myself. At
the Ramona spot we were joined by Jim & Evelyn Hotz, Joe & Cici Miller (who had their own ride going) and
our newest member, Kent Saxton. I don't recall having as many two ups as we had this ride since the days of Don
& Bobbie Presten, Steve & Toni Moyer plus Rick & Linda Moyer. Really cool!
The journey out of Ramona was typical, hang a left at Highway 79 and keep going but today it was getting mighty
toasty! The group stopped at the glider airport in Warner Springs for a grand "strip down" swapping
leather for t-shirts for the rest of the journey. Most of the riders peeled off 79 at the 371 for a lunch stop
at the Junction with 74.
Greg, Seanna and I kept on truckin, headed for beautiful downtown Hemet and Chinese food! The road we took was,
well, lets just say someday that's going to be one heck of a nice motorcycle road. Right now there are long sections
of dirt and gravel and....anybody up for another bike wash weekend?
Well, we got there, we ate our Chinese food joined by a childhood friend of Seannas'. One small problem (and
you knew this was coming right?) A half hour out of Hemet..... I was hungry again!
Thanks Greg and Seanna for a terrific day.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday, April 5, 6 & 7
Klub Kampout-This one is planned just as the deserts should be blooming. The camping spot has been changed to Potrero
County Park which offers more in the way of "facilities" than last years site at Kitchen Creek. It's
a perfect launch point for a Saturday desert ride. Not too hot, not too cold but juuuuust right! (obscure forest
reference) Those not into camping in tents are encouraged to join us in a motorhome or, just ride up Saturday morning
for a 9 am departure from the campground headed east into the desert.
